Eight teams from Kutama and surrounding areas will participate in the Marubini Manyane Foundation soccer challenge starting on 27 April, with the final to be played on 1 May at Madodonga.
The teams that will do battle in the two-day event are Ablex FC, Ramantsha Blackpool FC, Pat All Stars, Benny’s Care Sports Academy, Fukula FC, Tshikhodobo FC, Blackstone FC and Greenway Soccer Academy.
The champions will receive R6 000, a floating trophy, gold medals and a soccer ball. The runners-up will receive R2 000, silver medals and a soccer ball. The teams that end up in third and fourth position will win a soccer ball. Prizes for the top goal scorer, player of the tournament and coach of the tournament will also be awarded.
According to the organiser of the event and former Black Leopards striker, Mr Marubini Manyane, the cash prizes are likely to increase, depending on the amount they will receive from the other sponsors. He said that after the tournament he was going to donate school shoes and sanitary pads to needy learners from the region.
Kaizer Nengovhela started writing stories for Limpopo Mirror in 2000. Prior to that he had a five year stint at Phala-Phala FM as sports presenter. In 2005 Kaizer received an award from the province's premier as Best Sports Presenter. The same year he was also nominated as Best Sports Reporter by the Makhado Municipality. Kaizer was awarded the Mathatha Tsedu award in 2014.
