All Stars hold Omega to a dull draw

The Mukula-based Alpha and Omega Pharmacy Football Club performed beyond the spectators’ expectations when they managed to hold the highly respected Phungo All Stars to a goalless draw in their SAB League match that was played at the Mukula grounds on Sunday.

Although three of their key players were not available for the Sunday match for different reasons, All Stars managed to display their normal football skills as they created numerous scoring chances, none of which they could convert into goals.

The Stars’ bulldozer striker, Lungisani Ndlovu, did not live up to his reputation as an all-rounder, simply because he was tightly marked. The right flank of Omega, Phathutshedzo Takalani, caused an upset in the middle of the first half.

He beat the offside trap and held onto the ball for too long until he lost possession. His captain, Pfarelo Nepfumembe, committed a similar blunder in the 35th minute when his close-range shot went wide. All Stars introduced Norman Muribame and sacrificed Vhutshilo Masindi four minutes before the end of the first half.

The captain of Alpha and Omega, Pfarelo Nepfumembe, was cautioned with a card for protesting against the referee’s decision in the 54th minute. Realizing that his chances of seeing red were high, Nepfumembe’s coach replaced him with Ndinannyi Takalani.

All Stars showed much dedication as the game progressed. A defender of Omega, Pfarelo Nelushi, was given his marching orders, following a dangerous tackle on Lungisani Ndlovu. Alpha and Omega did not throw in the towel despite all the odds. Instead, they continued to fight until the tough game came to an end.
