Edwin "Cafu" Ramphabana was a star to watch when he steered his side, Manenzhe Liverpool, to a 2-1 victory over Winners Arsenal in their Vodacom Promotional League match that was played at the Manenzhe grounds on Sunday.
Ramphabana scored two goals. Liverpool, who were playing against the wind in the first half, squandered numerous scoring opportunities in the opening minutes. Their speedy forward, Ndondeni Maladzi, was the most unlucky player on the day. Maladzi missed a fortune four minutes into the game. He received a beautiful pass from Edwin Ramphabana and shot aimlessly from inside the box, instead of taking his time before unleashing. He caused another upset a little later when he lost possession inside the box with the Arsenal keeper already beaten.
It was that blunder which forced the technical staff to replace him with Lutendo Matshavha towards the end of the first half. The Arsenal midfielder, Kenneth Mabega, was booked for dangerous play on Hasani Makhubela in the 36th minute.
Liverpool opened their account in the 40th minute. The keeper of Arsenal, Wiseman Ndala, mishandled the ball and Ramphabana, who was waiting next to the goal line, blasted in a rocket. Mhloti Mboweni scored the equalizer for Arsenal nine minutes into the last half.
Ramphabana completed his brace in the 70th minute. The players and officials for Arsenal were not happy with the referee’s decision. They argued that the goal was scored from an offside position. Hlamalani Mashele of Arsenal was red-carded in the process as he continued to use abusive words towards the assistant referee, Christopher Mugeri.
