The 20 learners of tiny Tanganedzwa Primary in the mountain near Louis Trichardt can now boast a soccer field complete with real sturdy soccer nets, on which they can spend their free time, thanks to a community project by engineering students from the Pretoria University.

The need for decent recreational facilities at this isolated little school was identified by local student André Naudé junior, who shared this as a subject for their community project with his fellow second-year students in engineering at the university.

The students designed and built the very sturdy nets and handed them over at a special soccer day on March 20 at the school. The students treated the learners to barbecued sausage rolls, and issued them with special soccer shirts and caps, before joining them in the opening mach of the smartly appointed new soccer field. The agile and ingenious little learners were more than a match for the unfit students!

The students expressed their thanks to the many donors who made the project possible. They are Wouter Meintjies, Prominent Paints (Louis Trichardt), Bekker Bore, LCV Embroiders who donated the soccer shirts and caps, Martie Naudé, Iqbal Ahmed of Playboy Sports, Boma Vleismark (Pretoria) and the Limpopo Mirror and Zoutpansberger newspapers in Louis Trichardt.
