The bumpy road ahead of Black Leopards

Sport  Date: 11 April 2008

Time is running out for Black Leopards. Their situation is becoming uglier by the day and very soon they will be expected to win all their remaining matches if they want to see themselves campaigning in the same division, the Absa Premiership, next season.

Lidoda Duvha have so far lost 10 matches in a row. Their most recent result was a humiliating 0-4 defeat at the hands of Santos at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town last Friday evening. The Thohoyandou outfit is now languishing at the bottom of the log.

They are fast becoming a sure relegation bet as they have so far deposited only 15 points into their league account after 24 outings. The other relegation candidates, Jomo Cosmos, are five points ahead of the struggling Leopards.

The acquisition of the services of their new coach, Mr Shepherd Murape, seems to be working against them as the former Namibian national team coach was on the Leopards bench when they suffered a 0-4 drubbing at the hands of Santos last Friday.

A quick glance at their remaining fixtures reveals the fact that they stand a small chance of surviving the chop. Four of their remaining six matches will be played at their own home ground, the Thohoyandou Stadium. They will travel to Bloemfontein to honour their league fixture against Bloemfontein Celtic this Sunday.

Their next home match will be against Bidvest Wits and will be staged at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday, April 26. Wednesday, April 30, will see them hosting Thanda Royal Zulu. Lamontville Golden Arrows will be their next opponents.

They will lock horns with them on Saturday, May 10. Jomo Cosmos, against whom they will play on Wednesday, May 14, will be their second last opponents this season. Their final league match will be against Kaizer Chiefs and will be played at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday, May 17.
