The regional manager of SABC Limpopo, Mr Victor Ravhanzwo, Premier Sello Moloto, acting MEC of Sport Arts and Culture, Dikeledi Magadzi, Safa national executive member Dakedi Lekota, SABC members and other stakeholders were gathered at Peter Mokhaba Stadium last Thursday to commemorate the day the 2010 Fifa World Cup was awarded to South Africa.

In 2004, the whole nation waited with baited breath and then celebrated with delight as FIFA president Sepp Blatter announced that South Africa had been chosen to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Four years later, the SABC and South Africans from all walks of life gathered with Limpopo people for a thanks-giving ceremony. This celebration, spearheaded by the SABC in partnership with the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), serves as a reminder of the joy and celebration that greeted the announcement on that day. "May 15 marks an important historical day, not only on the sporting calendar, but in the lives of all South Africans. The SABC wants to galvanize South Africans to get behind Bafana Bafana and support them. We call upon all religious leaders to encourage the nation to unify in the build-up towards the World Cup in order for the country to host a successful and world-class event in 2010," said SABC provincial manager Victor Ravhuanzwo.

Thanks-giving ceremonies take place in all SABC regions. The celebrations promoted messages of hope, peace and prosperity regarding the hosting of 2010 World Cup. The slogan "Kenako – Celebrating Africa’s humanity" and "Vuka Sizwe" were the theme message of the national event.

Premier Sello Moloto said that the people of Limpopo would benefit from the 2010 matches and many were employed to build the Peter Mokhaba sport complex. Safa national executive member Nakedi Lekota said that South Africans must support the national team and as the host "we must show other countries that we are the best." He further said that South Africans are still proud of the Springbok team who won the World Cup in France last year.
