Harvest day for MMK Pool League

Pool teams affiliated to the MMK Pool Association shared R30 000 in prize money during their annual prize-giving ceremony at Louis Trichardt PJays on Saturday.

During the prize-giving ceremony, R10 000 of prize money was shared by eight teams who played in the PJays Restaurant Top 8. One of the sponsors, Mr Stofel Ndou of PJays, said that the donation clearly indicated that his company wanted to serve members of the community in order to bring development of sport in the area. "We are part of this community and we are doing this to support local people," he said. He concluded by saying his company would continue to sponsor the tournament.

The sports officer of the Makhado Municipality, Mr Shadrack Maroge, said the players had trained hard in order to excel at their activities. He gave examples of local boys who had put the municipality on the map, such as the 800 meter king, Mbulaheni Mulaudzi, international athlete Janus Robberts, Orlando Pirates striker Rudzani Ramudzuli, Sundowns defender, Luvhengo Munghomeni, Platinum Stars striker Phumudzo Manedzhe and Winners Park striker Michael Mulaudzi, who grew up in the rural area of Makhado. He praised the committee, who managed the sport well and encouraged community members to keep it up to produce talent amongst the youth athletes. The marketing officer of the MMK Pool Association, Mr Oupa Makhoshi, praised the team managers and players for their dedication and commitment during their matches.

During the ceremony, the champions, Mandi´s Pool Club, went home with R3 000, a trophy for winning the league as well as R2 500 and a trophy for being the PJays top king. The runners-up, Mapila, collected R2 400 and R1 000 for ending in fourth position in the PJay Top 8. Tshithuthuni received R1 550 and R500 for their achievements during the past season.

A prize of R1 300 and R500 went to Muremelani, and Madombidzah Lap 5 received R1 100 and R1500 for their achievements. The last two teams, Sedzanani and Sededza pool teams, collect R1 400 and R1 300 for ending in seventh and eighth position in the league.
