Thukhutha Football Club have booked a place in the quarter-final state of the prestigious Bindulavhathu KO competition by booting out Maha Flying Gunners in their equally contested match that was played at the Bergvlam Stadium on Sunday.
The only goal, which came towards the end of the game, was good enough to make the supporters of Thukhutha proud of their team. Flying Gunners had nobody to blame but themselves for the defeat, as they squandered countless obvious scoring opportunities in the game.
Three yellow cards were seen during the first half. Elikana Rakhumba of Flying Gunners was the first player to be reprimanded. He tackled Rofhiwa Mudzanani from behind and the referee was lenient enough to let him go with yellow. The two players for Thukhutha who were booked for different infringements were Michael Nndwamato and Richard Muluvhu.
The first team to effect a change to their original lineup was Flying Gunners. They introduced Mpho Muthivhi for Alex Matsea. Thukhutha responded by introducing Ephraim Mahuwa for Dakalo Mungulwa in the 67th minute.
Michael Nndwamato of Thukhutha obstructed Given Netshifhefhe and he saw yellow for that. Gunners missed a fortune in the 78th minute after creating some promising moves from behind. Their left flank, Derrick Tshikovhi, shot wide from outside the box.
The goal that separated the boys from the men came in the 84th minute. Murendeni Mathora tried his luck from the 25-meter area and the keeper of Gunners watched the ball helplessly as it landed behind the net. Gunners then started to panic and consequently squandered two scoring chances in a row.
