Amidst allegations of using muti, Mulodi Freedom Birds gave Thembaluvhilo Seven Stars a free soccer lesson when they mercilessly crushed them 4-0 in their Promotional League champ of champs match that was played at the Mulodi grounds on Saturday.
Seven Stars showed a lot of determination in the middle of the park, but their strikers seemed hypnotized as they squandered numerous obvious scoring chances. Their centre half, Khathutshelo Luvhimbi, was the first player to go into the referee’s book.
He tackled Tshifhiwa Netshisaulu from behind and the referee was lenient enough to let him go with yellow. Another player who was booked for dangerous play was Avhurengwi Mbedzi of Freedom Birds.
Freedom Birds were still one goal up at half time. Their opening goal came in the 34th minute. Tshifhiwa Netshisaulu forced his way through the defence of Seven Stars and beat the keeper with a ground cutter.
Freedom Birds were the first to effect a change to their original squad. They introduced Humbulani Sengani and Ntanganedzeni Makhado for Calvin Ratshilumela and Master Mahasa respectively. Seven Stars used all their substitution chances. They replaced Salthiel Mawela, Khathutshelo Luvhimbi and Shakes Mumba with Phumudzo Phaswana, Israel Sirunwe and Lufuno Bulannga respectively. That did not, however, stop Freedom Birds from scoring three more goals.
Ndivhuwo Ranwaha of Seven Stars saw red for a dangerous tackle. Freedom Birds scored the next three goals via Master Mahada, Tshifhiwa Netshisaulu and a substitute, Ntanganedzeni Makhado. Seven Stars tried hard to pull one back, but in vain.
