Freedom Birds too good for Jerome

Jerome River Bank will not participate in the next stage of the prestigious Vhembe District Mayoral Challenge. This follows their 1-2 defeat at the hands of Mulodi Freedom Birds at the Malamulele Stadium on Saturday.

The game was characterized by fruitless attempts. Freedom Birds squandered three obvious chances within the first 15 minutes. In the first instance, Tshifhiwa Netshisaulu caused an upset when he dribbled past everyone and shot wide from the goal line.

It was not long before Takalani Ramagalela hesitated for too long to unleash within the danger area of Jerome until he lost possession. As if that was not good enough to stir up the team’s enthusiastic supporters, Master Mahada committed a similar blunder moments thereafter.

Jerome River Bank were awarded a place kick in the 28th minute. Jeff Hlungwane tried his luck from the set piece and the ball landed behind the net without any further touch. The score was still 1-0 when the referee blew the half-time whistle.

Freedom Birds came back strongly in the last half. A substitute, Lufuno Ratshilumela, scored the equalizer, following a square pass from Vhutshilo Nemulodi. Takalani Ramagalela of Freedom Birds was the only player who was booked for a dangerous tackle. He tackled Thembani Chauke off the ball and the referee was lenient enough to let him go with yellow. Jerome made two changes to their starting lineup but that did not stop Freedom Birds from scoring their second goal via Dakalo Ratshitanga in the dying minutes.
