After losing 1-5 to Phungo All Stars the previous day, Khumbe Poultry Farm rectified their mistakes and rose to the occasion to beat Duthuni Happy Boys 3-0 in their SAB League match that was played at the Tshifulanani Stadium on Sunday.
Khumbe meant business from the onset in their Sunday match against Happy Boys. It was not surprising to see them threatening to score as early as the fourth minute. Their midfielder-cum-striker, Jonathan Mudzungwane, beat two defenders in a row and dished a neat pass to Reckson Mutavhatsindi.
Instead of relaxing on the ball and trying other possible ways, Mutavhatsindi panicked and unleashed aimlessly from outside the box. That did not kill his teammates’ fighting spirit as they continued to knock on the Happy Boys’ door.
Their endless efforts paid dividends in the 18th minute when Reckson Mutavhatsindi found the net, following a square pass from Jonathan Mudzungwane. The home side enjoyed the 1-0 lead until the proceedings for the first half came to an end.
The second half saw both sides effecting some changes to their starting line-ups. Khumbe introduced Eric Masala and Mulalo Nevondo for Patrick Mudzunga and Ntambudzeni Mundalamo while Happy Boys replaced Thivhavhudzi Ndou with Samuel Mavhungu.
The referee, Mr MK Mapasa, reprimanded Reckson Mutavhatsindi and Fhatuwani Radzilani with yellow cards for faking an injury and dangerous play respectively. Azwihangwisi Munyai scored the second goal with a ground cutter after beating the defence.
