After winning the Safa Vhembe Mayoral KO competition three months ago, Makhitha Yellow Birds were again crowned as champions, this time of the Total Challenge KO competition two weeks ago. They beat Muledane Giant Killers 4-3 in the final which was staged at the Tshifulanani Stadium.
Yellow Birds were presented with a floating trophy, a cash prize of R21 750 and gold medals during a prize-giving ceremony that was held at the stadium immediately after the final whistle. Their goalkeeper, Justice Mushambo, was nominated the best keeper for the tournament. He was presented with a floating trophy.
Although they could not take the championship to Muledane village, Muledane Giant Killers had something to be proud off. Their skillful midfielder, Khodani Nemaunguni, was the recipient of the top goal scorer award. Nemaunguni received two trophies during the ceremony as he was again voted the Man of the Match.
Just like the other teams which were booted out of the competition in the previous stages, Muledane Giant Killers took home a cheque of R1 250.
The ceremony was attended by a number of high-profile officials from Safa including the 2010 Local Organizing Committee CEO, Dr Danny Jordaan. In his keynote address, a representative from the sponsor, Mr Modise Ramahala, revealed that his company was committed to the development of football.
