Black Leopards might be doing well in the Nedbank Cup KO Competition, but their future as an affiliate for the National First Division (NFD) is still hanging in the balance. Lidoda Duvha are lying in the third spot from the bottom of the log.
They have reason to panic, as they need a point in their last league match to survive the chop. Their final hurdle for the season will be against Dynamos and will be staged at the Nkowankowa Stadium in Tzaneen next Saturday, May 2.
Leopards have 25 points in their league account, two ahead of Witbank Spurs and FCAK. If Spurs and FCAK win their last matches, Leopards will have to at least share the spoils with Dynamos. If Leopards manage to grab a point in their match against Dynamos, either Witbank Spurs or FCAK, who are lying in the last two positions on the log, will be dropped down to the Vodacom Promotional League.
A quick glance at the last fixtures for Spurs and FCAK brings to light the fact that collecting a single point will not be an easy task for either of them. FCAK will host Mpumalanga Black Aces in their last match, while Witbank Spurs will entertain Jomo Cosmos.
Both Black Aces and Jomo Cosmos are in the race for the league championship. The fight for a place in the promotional play-off is between three teams: Jomo Cosmos, Mpumalanga Black Aces and the University of Pretoria FC.
Jomo Cosmos are currently leading the pack with 33 points. Mpumalanga Black Aces are in the second spot with a gap of two points, while the University of Pretoria are threatening to turn the tables from the third spot. Winners Park, who were one of the hot favourites for the league title, are lying in the fourth position with 27 points.
