Lucky Stars are the Spar champions

Muwaweni Lucky Stars are the champions of the Elim Spar KO Competition. They beat Rivoni Home Defenders 5-3 in the final of the competition at the Elim ground on Sunday.

Lucky Stars received R3 000 during the prize-giving ceremony which was held at the grounds later that afternoon. Apart from the cash prize, Lucky Stars were also presented with a floating trophy and soccer kit.

Rivoni Home Defenders received R1 800 and a soccer kit. The third-placed Waterval United FC received R1 200 during the ceremony.

Mpheni Hungry Lions, who lost to Waterval United in the losers’ final match, became R800 richer. Teams that were booted out of the competition in the quarterfinal stage, Mpheni Home Defenders, Wata Peace Makers, Valdezia Santos and Mambedi Sundowns, were each given a consolation prize of R550 during the ceremony.

The goalkeeper of the tournament, Raymond Phasasa of Muwaweni Lucky Stars, received R150, and the award for best referee during the event, Dumisani Chauke, also received R150.

The player of the tournament, Tshepo Mathekgane, was presented with R150, while the top goal scorer, Penuel Sithole, took home a cheque of R200. The coach of Muwaweni Lucky Stars, Robert Chabalala, was presented with a cheque of R150.

During the ceremony, the manager of Elim Spar, Mr Henk Jacobs, indicated that the competition will be an annual event. He further revealed that the sponsorship will increase with time.

Nineteen teams from the Makhado II Stream took part in the competition this year.
