Siyanama Sports Ground at Phiphidi Village will be the centre of attention next Tuesday, June 16. All soccer teams which are based within Ward 30 of the Thulamela Municipality will be fighting for the championship in the Mosa Engineering Services Sports Tournament.
According to Mr Ndivhoniswani Lidala of the organizing committee, ten soccer teams, Duthuni Happy Boys, Duthuni Young Movers, Maha Flying Gunners, Matondoni Home Sweepers, Vondo Vibes, Maranzhe Hungry Lions, Tshambobvu Junior Aces, Duthuni Try Again, Phiphidi Bush Bucks and Tshiawelo Bosveld, will battle it out in the senior section. Five primary schools, Matondoni, Dovhoni, John Marubini, Tshanowa and Murangoni, will fight for the U/12 championship, while Ligege High School, Denga Tshivhase and Luphai High School will participate in the netball section.
Lidala revealed that a Gauteng-based company, MOSA Engineering Services, will sponsor the tournament. The tournament was officially launched during a ceremony that was held at the Duthuni grounds last Saturday. During an interview with the executive director of MOSA Engineering Services, Mr Chirstopher Singo, he revealed that 10 soccer kits will be at stake in the tournament.
Apart from the soccer kits which the winning teams will be presented with, the overall champions will go home with a cash prize of R5 000. When asked why he decided to sponsor a sports tournament in Venda while his company is based in Gauteng, Singo said that he believed in the proverbial expression that reads “charity begins at home.” Singo obtained his primary and secondary education at Tshiluvhi Primary and Thohoyandou Technical High School respectively. He then proceeded to the ML Sultan Technikon in Durban, where he studied Mechanical Engineering. He added that the sponsorship would increase annually, depending on the financial position of his company.
During the ceremony, Singo handed over10 soccer kits to the local ward councillor, Mrs Sylvia Rammela. When showing her apprecia-tion for the sponsorship, Mrs Rammela described Mr Singo as a selfless and caring father.
