In the final match for the prestigious MOSA Engineering KO Competition match which was played at the Phiphidi Siyanama grounds on Tuesday, Maha Flying Gunners beat Phiphidi Bush Bucks 1-0 to claim the championship.
Flying Gunners took the game to their opponents in the first 10 minutes. It was their speedy forward, Ronald Tshisimba, who let them down by shooting aimlessly at the goal finish. Bush Bucks rectified their mistakes soon afterwards.
Their diminutive striker, Vhutshilo Mavhungu, caused an upset after beating the offside trap and faced the stranded keeper, only to lose possession at the goal finish.
The Tivhilidulu-based referee, Mashudu Sathuma, flashed the first yellow card in the 34th minute. Thilivhali Lusunzi obstructed Thivhulawi Nengovhela and the referee was lenient enough to let him go with yellow as the nature of the offence carried the weight of a red card. The scoreboard was still asking for numbers when the teams adjourned for half time.
Ndanganeni Mawela and Vhutshilo Mavhungu, both of Bush Bucks, were reprimanded with cards for dangerous tackles early in the last stanza. The game came to a halt for seven minutes in the 60th minute. This after the players of Bush Bucks started complaining to the referee, saying the Gunners’ substitute, Steven Rakhumba, was not supposed to be part of the team, alleging that he was under suspension.
Their allegations were proved false and the game continued as if nothing had happened. Flying Gunners’ winning goal came 15 minutes before the final whistle. Thilivhali Lusunzi beat the keeper after dribbling past two defenders in a row. Bush Bucks tried everything within their reach in search for the equalizer, but it was not their day.
