MPHEPHU- The 23-year-old Bethuel Netshifhefhe of Harmony Gold Marathon Club won the PhalaPhala FM Land of Legend Marathon on Saturday.
The race started at the Thohoyandou Stadium and ended at the Protea Mphephu Resort.
Netshifhefhe won the race in 2:28 and received R750, a gold medal and T-shirts. He was followed by Lucas Nonyana and Rodgers Ndou, who received R375 and R250 respectively and gold medals.
In the Masters category, Petrus Davhana of the SAPS won the marathon, Phuthi Mabotha (Eskom Gijima Marathon Club in Polokwane) ended in the second position and the third position went to Wilson Mashalane from Eskom Gijima.
Martin Gurida won the veteran category, followed by Albert Maesela and Robert Bodi. In the ladies category for veterans, Jane Munyai did as she did last year by finishing first and going home with R750-00, gold medals and T shirts, with Agnes Muswane finishing the race in the second position.
Rofhiwa Mandiwana was the winner of the ladies division.
Petrus Ngobeni (65) of Soutpansberg won the masters division of the half-marathon. In the open category of the half-marathon, Paul Dangale defended his title successfully.
Betty Mundalamo, followed by Amanda Kruger of Soutpansberg Marathon club, won the veteran division of the half-marathon and Livhuwani Maduka finished in front in the open category.
The prize for the best water point went to Eskom, who received R1 000.
According to Bethuel Netshifhefhe, he started his career in 1994 at Tshisaulu Marathon Club under the guidance of Mr Samson Muthivhi. He then joined the Rentmeester Athletics Club and later the Harmony Marathon Club.
Netshifhefhe added that he will do his best to win the famous Loskop marathon on 24 April.
Kaizer Nengovhela started writing stories for Limpopo Mirror in 2000. Prior to that he had a five year stint at Phala-Phala FM as sports presenter. In 2005 Kaizer received an award from the province's premier as Best Sports Presenter. The same year he was also nominated as Best Sports Reporter by the Makhado Municipality. Kaizer was awarded the Mathatha Tsedu award in 2014.
