Black Leopards’ international stars in action again

Sport  Date: 22 January 2010

After a break of two weeks, Black Leopards will be back in action next Wednesday afternoon. Leopards applied for the postponement of their league matches early this month, citing the unavailability of three of their players.

In terms of the rules and regulations for the Premier Soccer League, a club may apply for the postponement of their matches if more than two players are not available due to national team commitments. Three of Leopards’ international players, Robert Ngambi, Peter Mponda and Fischer Kondowe, are part of the Malawian national team that is currently taking part in the African Cup of Nations tournament in Angola.

According to the general manager of Black Leopards, Mr Sam Khaphathe, they will now continue with their league activities after one of their players who was in Angola, Fischer Kondowe, was released by his country’s national team early this week.

Black Leopards were supposed to play against Dynamos in their third-round match at the Nkowankowa Stadium tomorrow afternoon, but the match will now be played at the same venue next Wednesday afternoon, after Dynamos applied for the postponement of the match, citing the unavailability of some of their key players as the reason.

Three NFD matches will be played at various places tomorrow afternoon. The pace setters, African Warriors, will battle it out for league points against Batau FC at the Charles Mopedi Stadium in the Free State. Both Batau and Warriors lost their matches last weekend. Warriors lost 2-3 to University of Pretoria while Batau were beaten 1-0 by Witbank Spurs.

Witbank Spurs will entertain United FC at the Ackerville Stadium in Witbank. Winners Park will have a date with University of Pretoria at the Seshego Stadium in Polokwane.
