The 39-year-old Zimbabwean, Brighton Chipere of the Nedbank Athletics club, won the annual Land of Legend Marathon which took place in Thohoyandou on Saturday. The race started at the Thohoyandou stadium and ended at the Mphephu resort. Chipere finished the race in 2:22.19, two minutes faster than the winning time of last year´s champion, Michael Ngaseke. This year, Ngaseke finished the race in second position in a time of 2:27:18. The Land of Legend champion for 2010, Chipere went home with R7 500, while Ngaseke received R3 500 for his effort. The third prize of R1 000 went to Sipho Ncube of Mr Price Athletics club. The winner in the ladies category was Mpho Mabuza (30) of Nedbank Athletics Club and she also received R7 500. She finished the 42,2 kilometres in 2:52:41. She was followed by Chiyedza Chokore of Mr Price Athletics Club, with her younger sister, Lizzy Chokore, in third position. The well-known veteran lady, Jane Mudau of Nedbank Athletics Club, won the masters category . The 21,1 kilometre race was won by Kgosi Tsuane of Nedbank Athletics Club, who finished in 1:02:12. For his achievement, he received R3 500. Joshua Sibao of Mr Price Athletics Club was second. The ladies category in the half-marathon was won by Tshatsha Thabita of Mr Price Athletics Club. Her time was 1:15.22. Rotando Nyabora of Nedbank Athletics Club ended second in 1:17:18.
Kaizer Nengovhela started writing stories for Limpopo Mirror in 2000. Prior to that he had a five year stint at Phala-Phala FM as sports presenter. In 2005 Kaizer received an award from the province's premier as Best Sports Presenter. The same year he was also nominated as Best Sports Reporter by the Makhado Municipality. Kaizer was awarded the Mathatha Tsedu award in 2014.
