THOHOYANDOU- PhalaPhala FM and Old Mutual have invited all local long distance runners to register for the prestigious Old Mutual/ PhalaPhala FM Land of Legends Marathon, which will take place on March 27 from the Thohoyandou Stadium to the Protea Mphephu Resort.
According to the Marketing Manager of PhalaPhala FM, Mrs Lufu Madima, the main purpose of the marathon is to promote long-distance running in the area.
The registration will take place at Thohoyandou Stadium from 04:30 to 06:00 on the morning of the race. The registration is R45 for the marathon and R25 for the half-marathon. Madima appealed to the runners to be punctual at the registration point, and said that several prizes are at stake.
The winner of the race will win R750-00 in the open races for men and women, the winners of the veteran division will receive R375, while masters division winners will receive R250 each and the winners of the grandmasters divisions will receive R150 each. The prizes in the half-marathon will range from R375 to R125.
Last year's marathon was won by Stanley Pfarelo Nekhondela, Mathews Ramoshaba won the veteran's category, Agnes Mushwane was the winner of ladies category and Jane Mudau won the veteran ladies category. The half-marathon was won by Paul Dangale and Agnes Mudau won the ladies category.
The half-marathon will start at Phiphidi and end at Protea Mphephu Resort
Kaizer Nengovhela started writing stories for Limpopo Mirror in 2000. Prior to that he had a five year stint at Phala-Phala FM as sports presenter. In 2005 Kaizer received an award from the province's premier as Best Sports Presenter. The same year he was also nominated as Best Sports Reporter by the Makhado Municipality. Kaizer was awarded the Mathatha Tsedu award in 2014.
