The annual Powerade Kremetart One-Day Stage Race will take place next weekend, June 5. This year will see the 21st Kremetart One-Day Stage Race – a race which has over the years established itself as one of the best cycling challenges in South-Africa. This is evident not only when one looks at the annual number of entries for the race from across the country, but also the number of top cyclists and national cycling teams the event attracts. Top national teams to compete this year include both the MTM men’s and women’s team, as well team Nashua, TCS and Medscheme. Every year there is something new or something to upgrade this prestigious cycling event, hosted by the P&L Hardware Cycling Club. Apart from the 175km stage race and 70km race, this year’s event will also boast the first ever Kremetart Mountain Bike Challenge, scheduled for Sunday, June 6. Here, participants will be able to choose from a 10km, 20km, 30km and 40km race – a race for every level of cyclist. No Akkedis Mountain Race will be held this year, so the Kremetart Mountain Bike Challenge promises to be huge. The annual 22km Fun Ride has also changed to a more “fun-filled” 12km race with no mountains. “It will be the safest fun ride you will ever experience. The route is flat and a must for kids and those who have a bicycle but never ride it and just want to experience the vibe of the Kremetart event,” say the organizers. Building on its success of the past, the Kremetart Mike´s Kitchen Kiddies Race will once again take place a day prior to the main event on Friday, June 4 at Mike’s Kitchen at Makhado Crossing. Races will start at 14:30 in the parking area before Mike’s Kitchen. All children between the ages of 2 and 11 are welcome to enter at R20 per entry. Entry forms are available from school or at Mike’s Kitchen. Children are requested to enter before the day of the race. Medals will be handed to all finishers, with lucky draws after the kiddies races. Remember, no helmet no race, although they can borrow a friend’s or family member’s helmet. For information on the Kiddies Race, phone Jan or Christina at Mike’s Kitchen at tel. 015 516 5946.
