A young lady from the small, remote area of Tshilamba in the Thoyandou area has made it big in the boxing industry. She is only in her mid-twenties, but has made it further than her years.
Mbavhalelo Nematondoni is the first lady to become a ring announcer in the whole of Limpopo. “I started this career three months ago at the Malamule Gym Centre. Boxing South Africa (BSA) was looking for a ring announcer in Limpopo and I took my chances. It was my first time trying out for ring announcer," she said.
Her mother, Christina Mudau, who has been a boxing judge since 1998, is the one who made her fall in love with the sport. This young star is not only a ring announcer, she is also a presenter and a news reader for Univen FM. She did media studies at the University of Venda.
“I have experienced the acting industry; I played in the Venda soapie Muvhango as an extra, as well as in a movie called Walk like a Man, which was shown in Durban cinemas last year. I also appear in music videos, one being I feel you by DJ Pash and Aluwani Ramawa, who is currently a presenter for Wina Manje on SABC 2”, said Mbavhalelo.
“ I feel honoured to be part of the boxing crew, radio and acting,” she added.
She is currently trying out the business industry and has registered her own company. Mbavhalelo says: “ I praise the Lord for what I am today. I also thank my mother, who encouraged me to join her in the boxing industry." Mbavhalelo said she wanted to thank the first Limpopo ring announcer, Mashudu Siaga, who taught and lectured her about boxing. She encouraged young ladies to follow her in different sporting codes.
Kaizer Nengovhela started writing stories for Limpopo Mirror in 2000. Prior to that he had a five year stint at Phala-Phala FM as sports presenter. Kaizer was awarded the Mathatha Tsedu award in 2014.
