THOHOYANDOU- Fabulous prizes were dished out to the winning teams and individual students during the Univen 2003 prize-giving ceremony, that was held at Vevisa Lodge in Thohoyandou last Friday evening.

The champions of the Vice-Chancellor and Principal's Tournament, Zurich Football, received a floating trophy. Collins "Mwaruwaru" Chabalala received a trophy in absentia. He was the top goal scorer during the Sassu Tournament that was held in Durban last December. Mr HH Ndindani was selected the best coach for the Vice-Chancellor and Principal's Tournament.

He guided Zurich FC to the championships for the tournament. He was given a trophy in honour of that achievement. Other individual players for different sporting codes who represented the University of Venda For Science and Technology during various regional and national tournaments and came back with medals, were awarded with trophies for their good ambassadorship.

During the ceremony, an Executive Dean of Univen, Prof NS Mahoko, encouraged the disabled and the ladies to participate in sports. The managing director of the MMK Insurance, Mr Solly Mukwevho, delivered the keynote address during the ceremony.

He appealed to people who are knowledgeable in sports to impart their knowledge to other people by way of conducting sports administration and coaching clinics. He defined sports as one of today's top job-creating wagons in the world.
