Black Leopards´ new coach, Johnny Ferreira, did not stay very long and signed a year-long contract with rivals Dynamos FC last Tuesday.
Ferreira, who was given a contract form last month to study, said he didn’t sign it due to an amendment. "The amendment was going to tie my hands and I would have been a head coach without any authority. I am no longer the Black Leopards coach, I’m now with Dynamos,” said Ferreira.
Leopards´ team manager, Sam Khaphathe, said Ferreira was not Lidoda duvha´s coach. "He just rushed in to sit on the bench without a contract," he said. Khaphathe said the team had an appointment with him in Pretoria to discuss his contract, but the deal did not materialise, because there were elements involved that could put the team in disarray.
“He (Ferreira) had no contract with us and the team is still training under Joel Masutha’s supervision. We are now negotiating with two coaches and, before long, everything will be going well. The past week Lidoda duvha lost 2-1 against Witbank Spurs at Tshifulanani Stadium, not because there is no head coach. Nine of our players, including all strikers, are injured and this is why we lost the game,” said Khaphathe.
The PRO of Dynamos, Joe Mbiza, confirmed that they had signed a two-year contract with the new coach. Mbiza stated that he was convinced that they had employed the right man for the job.
The million dollar question in the Dynamos’ camp now is whether their new head coach, Ferreira, will produce the miracle to save the team from the jaws of relegation at the end of the season. “If we win the league next season, that will be superb, but I have set myself a target of winning the league championship during my second season with Dynamos “ he said.
Ferreira´s appointment comes after Rikhomeni ringa peri´s coach, Philip Mbofane, was arrested for allegedly raping a girl at Polokwane a fortnight ago. He again appeared in court last week and was granted bail of R1 000. Mbofane will have to appear in court again on the 30th of November.
Mbiza said Mbofane would appear before the team´s disciplinary committee on accusation that he had tarnished the image of the team.
