Prize money amounting to R50 000 was distributed to teams during the prize-giving ceremony of the Zoutpansberg Schools Sport Association, which was held at the Muduluni Community Hall last Thursday.

The log leader of each stream went home with R2 100 and a floating trophy. The Secondary Schools champion was Benny´s Care. The netball winners in the secondary school division were Sinthumule High. Khogonyane Lower Primary won the netball and soccer.

Muengedzi Senior Primary was the king of the soccer league. Ramantsha and Muduluni Primary were joint winners of the senior primary netball catergory.

The chairperson of Zoutpanberg West Schools Sport, Mr Jerrey Mbadaliga, appealed to businesspeople to get involved in promoting local activities. He added that his league had been operating many years without a sponsorship.

The managing director of Benny´s Care Sport Development, Mr David Mufamadi, said during the ceremony sport without education was nothing. “You can be a star today and be written off the following day. Education will never forsake you, and you can bank on it,” he added.

Mufamadi said young ones must regards stars as role models, irrespective of whether they were educated or not.

Mufamadi criticized teachers who are involved in drugs. "Imagine the teacher who is supposed to be role model is selling dagga to the pupils. What type of future leaders are we expecting from that generation? We are also seriously concerned about community members who sell alcoholic beverages to school kids. Can you imagine a learner dressed in school uniform, queuing in the bottle store for beer?
