R50 000 fine for Black Leopards

Sport  Date: 28 January 2011

Black Leopards were fined R50 000 by the disciplinary committee of the Premier Soccer League, for failure to wear a properly marked kit.

Several clubs, including Black Leopards, appeared before the committee last Friday evening.

The incident relating to Leopard´s charge occurred in a match between Black Leopards and FC Cape Town, which was played at the Tshifulanani Stadium on December 11, last year. The committee found that although the matter was discussed with both teams during the pre-match meeting when the kit was inspected, Lidoda Duvha intentionally failed to wear the correct clothing with the NFD logo on the sleeve.

The whole amount was suspended for a period of 12 months. Leopards were, however, ordered to pay a share of the costs for the disciplinary committee sitting. According to the Premier Soccer League prosecutor, Mr Zola Majavu, the full cost for the sitting is R21 000.

Jomo Cosmos appeared on charges of arriving late for the pre-match meeting and failure to produce registration cards for the players. This occurred in their match against FC AK, which was played at the Eldorado Park Stadium in Johannesburg on January 8.

The committee found that Cosmos arrived 18 minutes late for the pre-match meeting. They also failed to produce the registration cards for the players 60 minutes before kick-off as required by the rules and regulations for the league.

Cosmos did not want to waste the committee’s time; instead, they paid an admission-of-guilt fine of R5 000.

Nathi Lions also appeared on a charge of failure to wear properly marked kit. They were fined an amount of R30 000, which was wholly suspended. Nathi Lions were also ordered to pay a share of the costs for the sitting.
