First Professional Chippas were by far too strong for Queens FC when they overpowered them 4-1 in their Sasol Women’s League match that was played at the FNB Makwarela Stadium on Saturday, 5 March 2011. The game was a one-way traffic flow from the onset to the bitter end, with Chippas dictating the terms.
It did not come as a surprise when the local ladies took the lead in the 9th minute. Their diminutive striker, Murembiwa “Mdu” Mugivhi, was on target after receiving a neat pass from Portia Tshikhudo. Queens lost cohesion in the middle of the park shortly after the Chippas’ first goal. They were severely punished for that. Chippas capitalized on the setback and pressed hard in search of more goals. They were awarded a penalty in the 26th minute. A defender of Queens, Joyce Manaka, handled the ball within the box and the referee was quick to point at the white spot. Maggie Mukhuwana converted from the penalty spot to make it 2-0.
The struggle continued, with Chippas enjoying more possession. They were leading 3-0 when the referee, Lufuno Nemagovhani, blew the half-time whistle. Their third goal was scored by Murembiwa Mugivhi, nine minutes before the end of the first stanza.
The visitors gained momentum in the opening minutes of the first half. Their efforts did not pass without reward as they scored their solitary goal in the 54th minute. Reginah Moroka unleashed from outside the box and Chippas’ slender keeper, Nyiko Mafanele, watched helplessly as the ball hit the back of the net.
The goal was an insult to the players of Chippas. They regrouped and initiated some promising moves from behind. Portia Tshikhudo was on target in the 78th minute after receiving a beautiful pass from Murembiwa Mugivhi. Mugivhi caused an upset later in the game when she fumbled at the goal line, with the keeper already beaten.
