It was sweet revenge for Black Leopards after they beat Witbank Spurs 2-1 in a well-attended National First Division match played at Tshifulanani stadium on Saturday. Spurs beat Leopards twice this soccer season, but on Saturday it was a different ball game. Leopards were superior from the onset as far possession was concerned and applied pressure on the defence of Spurs for the better part of the match. Their defenders refused to allow Spurs to dictate terms in their territory. Their efforts did not pass without reward as they opened their account in the 35th minute. Dingane Masanabo hit the target, following a beautiful pass from team skipper Robert Ngambi. What followed thereafter was one-way traffic, with Leopards firmly in the driver´s seat. After the goal, the home team squandered two clear chances in the 39th and 41st minute. In the first instance, Rodney Ramagalela caused an upset when he shot wide, with the keeper clearly beaten. Robert Ngambi committed a similar blunder a few moments later. The boys from Emalahleni should have levelled the score, but their veteran striker, Basil Zulu, shot wide after receiving a well-timed pass from Vusi Mthimkhulu. In the second half, Leopards took the match to their opponents. Spurs should blame their defender, Amos Mnguni, who was the first player to be reprimanded with a card. He tackled Luyolo Mapholisa from behind and the referee, Victor Hlungwane, was lenient enough to let him go with a yellow card. The Mpumalanga outfit then changed their pattern of play and started to initiate moves from behind. They did not reap anything from their effort as it was not easy to find a way through the rock-solid defence of Leopards. Spurs´ midfielders hesitated far too long and thus could not release balls in time for their goal poachers. This sloppy performance put the defence under tremendous pressure. The local lads initiated some promising moves from the centre of the pitch, and this helped Dingane Masanabo to complete his brace in the 56th minute. The Witbank boys started to play as a team in the last 10 minutes and they ended up scoring in the 87th minute via Sizwe Maseko. Leopards are currently lying in the second spot of the league log, with only three matches left in the league programme.
