Kremetart still growing in popularity

MAKHADO (LOUIS TRICHARDT) - With just over three months to go until this year's annual Kremetart Cycling Race on June 5, more than 200 entries have already been received for the 172km main stage of the race.

It would seem as if initial estimates of 1000 riders for the main event might be conservative, as the advertising campaign for the race only gets underway in March. It is estimated that the two subsidiary events, the 72km race from Vivo and the 20km fun ride from Schoemansdal, will attract another 400 to 500 riders. This will represent a 250% growth in the size and popularity of the event since 2003.

Most of the participants come from outside the province and they often stay for the weekend, bringing with them family or friends. About 2 500 additional people are expected to spend this specific weekend in town.

Local cyclists who wish to take part can either enter online at www.cyclelab.co.za or can contact Malcolm at Tel (015) 516 0387 or Koos at 015 516 0387. Entry fees are R160 for the main 172km stage race, R60 for the 72km race and R 30 for the fun ride.
