United Artist continued to pave their way up the log, when they collected the maximum points at the expense of Phungo All Stars at the Maniini All Blacks ground on Sunday. Artists won 2-0.
The game started 15 minutes later than the scheduled 15:00 kick-off time. There was a raging argument between the officials of All Stars and the match officials before the first whistle. The centre for the argument was Stars’ refusal to bring a team sheet that was in line with their line-up. Stars finally did the right thing and the game started as if nothing had happened.
Phungo All Stars were fully prepared for the game as they managed to match the title chasers pound for pound in all departments throughout the first half. The game was characterized by rough tackles in the first 25 minutes. The referee, Mashudu Sathuma, calmed the situation by flashing three yellow cards in quick succession. The first card went to Jeffrey Mungoni, whose sin was dangerous play on Tshilidzi Khalushi of All Stars in the 14th minute. Onismus Mantsho and Derick Sekwaila, both of All Stars, were also booked for obstruction and wasting time.
The scoreboard was still blank when the proceedings for the first half came to an end. All Stars suffered a big blow when their central defender, Tshilidzi Khalushi, saw red for pulling off his T-shirt before leaving the pitch.
United Artists capitalized on the setback. Their first goal came in the 65th minute. Tony Mudzungwane beat the defence of Stars and scored an easy goal. All Stars missed a fortune five minutes later, when Allen Masoga’s shot was saved by the Artists’ keeper, Shandukani Khwalu. Artists increased the margin via a substitute, Dovhani Tshikovhi, later in the game.
