Leopards to host Vasco in Nedbank top 8

Sport  Date: 15 April 2011

The draws for the Nedbank quarterfinals were held at the Nedbank offices in Johannesburg on Monday morning. Black Leopards were matched with Vasco Da Gama in the quarterfinal.

Leopards’ general manager, Mr Sam Khaphathe, said the draw was a blessing to them. He revealed that their dream was to play either Vasco da Gama or Mpumalanga Black Aces in the quarterfinal stage of the prestigious competition. Khaphathe said that they had unfinished business with Vasco da Gama. He was referring to the fact that it was Vasco da Gama who denied them promotion to the Absa Premiership Division last season, when they beat them 2-1 in their promotional play-off match. He reiterated that it was time for them to make Vasco pay for the pain the club caused them.

The good news about Lidoda Duvha is that they will be playing in front of their home crowd.

Baroka FC, the only Vodacom Promotional League side in the competition, will play against Kaizer Chiefs. Although they are campaigning in the bantam division, it will be a suicidal mistake for Chiefs to underrate them. Baroka FC beat the Absa Premiership side, Moroka Swallows, 2-1 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in their last-16 match that was played two weeks ago.

It will be another home match for Baroka. The Sekhukhune-based side has already been declared the Vodacom Promotional League champions, despite the fact that they still have two matches to play before they wrap up their league programme.

Orlando Pirates will try their luck against Free State Stars in what will be the Buccaneers’ home fixture. Free State Stars’ way to the quarterfinals went via Supersport United, whom they beat 1-0. Mpumalanga Black Aces will pay a visit to Amazulu. The champions will become R6 million richer.
