The Safa Vhembe promotional league derby between Tshikota Chelsea and Tshikota Matika was not played to the finish on Saturday at Tshikota. Chelsea was still leading 3-2 when the match was stopped.

The referee who was supposed to officiate during the match failed to turn up and the two teams agreed to a toss-up for a neutral referee.

The match was stopped several times when Chelsea players applied rough tactics. Matika was only good at the far back. Its midfielders hesitated for too long and thus could not release balls on time to their goal poachers. This sloppy performance put the defence under tremendous pressure.

The Chelsea lads initiated some promising moves from the centre of the pitch, but were denied a number of scoring opportunities by the rock-solid defence of Matika. The closest Matika came to scoring was when Peter Rarubobe tried his luck from outside the box. Faith Ratombo, the keeper of Chelsea, made his presence felt when he palmed the ball away for a corner kick.

Matika continued to control proceedings, but their strikers let them down by shooting aimlessly from close range. The keeper of Matika made a mistake and passed the ball to his opponent, Karel Ratombo, who scored easily to make the half-time score 1-0.

Matika came back strongly, but Chelsea´s keeper denied them a goal when he fisted Gift Ndou´s volley away. Shortly thereafter, Innocent Mathatha of Mtaika was brought down within the box and the referee pointed to the white spot. Chelsea´s keeper palmed the ball out of the field of play. Samuel Maluleke scored his team´s second goal in the 65th minute. Johannes Mhlanga forced his way through the defence of Chelsea and released a rocket from outside the box. As if he was a spectator, the keeper, Faith Ratombo, watched the ball hit the net without making any attempt to save the ball.

Karel Ratombo complete his brace and the third goal of his team when he blasted in a rocket. The celebration was cut short when Matika´s kingpin, Caswell Khwerana, reduced the margin. When the match was left with only five minutes of play, the players started to fight and officials of both teams tried to intervene. Due to the fact that the match did not start at the official time, it became too dark to play and the referee blew the final whistle.
