Davhana Shooting Stars collected six points in their two SAB League matches over the weekend of 16 April.
They mercilessly thrashed Rangani All Stars 8-1 at the Makonde Stadium on Saturday. Their victory on Sunday was against the league title contenders, Joe’s Express FC, whom they beat 3-2 at the Vuwani Mandani grounds.
The home side squandered numerous scoring chances in the first half, while Express played defensive football by volleying from behind. The keeper of Express, Maemu Musekwa, made his presence felt in the 19th minute when he stretched to the limit to save Thomas Makhubele’s volley.
Joe’s Express changed their pattern and started to play carpet football soon afterwards. They nearly found the net a while later, but Nevhulamba was unlucky to see his ground cutter going a little wide. Shooting Stars were leading 1-0 at half time. Their opening goal came in the 34th minute when Siyabonga Sibande hooked in a loose ball, following a scramble within the box.
The visitors from the Niani area found the equalizer three minutes into the last stanza. Lutendo Matshavha headed home, following a square pass from the unmarkable Rudolph Nevhulamba.
Express introduced Edwin Ramphabana and Maemu Nethavhani for Given Netshifhefhe and Khathutshelo Matodzi respectively. The substitutions brought about frustration for the defence of Shooting Stars. That resulted in Express´s scoring their second goal via Joel Goba, who headed home after a neat pass from Lutendo Matshavha.
Shooting Stars responded by replacing Siyabonga Sibande and Rofhiwa Netshiungani with Zakhele Nhlapo and Lindelani Baloyi. Zakhele scored Stars’ equaliser in the 67th minute, while the winner came via Happy Mahuntsi in the dying minutes.
