The Makhado LFA league match between Gwamasenga United Brothers Muungamunwe Liverpool at the Gwamasenga grounds on Sunday, ended in chaos. United Brothers were leading 1-0 when the chaos erupted.
It was evident from the onset that something unusual was going to happen, as the players of Liverpool were excelling when it came to dangerous tackles. The referee, Richard Tshidino, did not let the evildoers go unpunished as he flashed two yellow cards in the first ten minutes.
The first player to go into the referee’s book was the Liverpool captain, Lesly Khomola. He was warned for protesting against the referee’s decision. Chester Muvhali was booked for a late tackle on Ntambudzeni Mundalamo, three minutes later. Rendani Sadiki of United obstructed Mushe Masia outside his own penalty box, and was also cautioned with a card.
Chester Munyai of Liverpool was given his marching orders in the 74th minute. He tackled Mpho Sigidi from behind and the referee had no option but to send him off as he had already been booked for a different infringement earlier on.
The players of Liverpool were not happy with the referee’s decision. They approached the referee angrily, accusing him of favouritism. Their argument with the referee resulted in two of them, Rolivhuwa Ravele and Tshumelo Khangale, going into the referee’s book. That was the reason for the fans of Liverpool to invade the pitch and join the players in their argument with the referee.
The referee was manhandled in the process and he finally called the game off, saying his safety was not guaranteed under the circumstances.
