Madombidzha Arsenal strengthened their position in the Limpopo Dairy league, when they beat Makhitha Masters 2-1 at Makhitha on Sunday.
Masters was only good at the far back; its midfielders hesitated for too long and did not release balls on time. Their sloppy performance put their defence under tremendous pressure.
The visitors initiated promising moves from the centre of the pitch, but were denied a number of scoring opportunities by the rock-solid defence of Masters.
The captain of Arsenal, Rendani Sithodo, was lucky to escape with a verbal warning after kicking his opponent, Deshin Monyeloete. The visitors should have scored in the 40th minute, but their striker, Londy Musiamo, shot wide with only the keeper to beat. Masters came back strongly, but the keeper of Arsenal, Ngwana, denied them a goal when he fisted Rodney Nematatani´s volley away.
Dakalo Nwanamidwa forced his way through the defence of the opponents and released a rocket from outside the box. The opponents´ keeper, Elikan Nemakanga, watched the ball hit the net without making any attempt to save the ball.
Arsenal´s Matodzi Mutangwa and Takalani Rambuda of Masters were both red-carded for second bookable offences. Mbengeni Rambuwani scored his team´s second goal, after he finished off a square pass from Jasphat Thovhakale. Masters´ midfielder Omsish Mudzunga score his team´s consolation goal in the last minutes.
