Boxers from Thulamela Municipality in Vhembe came out on top during the developmental tournament held at Buffalo Lodge, Polokwane, over the weekend.
Out of the 20 boxers who participated in the 10 professional bouts, six of the eight boxers who won their fights are from Thulamela.
The boxers are: Aluwani Nemaranzhe, who defeated Ndivhuwo Siliga, also from Thohoyandou, on points; Vincent Siliga knocked out Steven Laka of Bochum; Lizbeth Sivhaga defeated Mashudu Ramakuela; Dakalo Muleba defeated Matume Make; Thizwilondi Nemapandoni defeated Morris Mutavhatsindi, while Mutshutshudzi Mudau defeated Petrus Motlapema in the main bout that went the distance over six rounds.
The fight between Enos Tshipuke and Vhahangwele Masithulela was declared a draw after Tshipuke sustained a serious cut above the eye in the first round.
Meanwhile, Mudau, who now has a record of five fights (five wins, four of them by way of knock-out) said he was happy about the latest win. Mudau, who fights in the bantamweight division, said his ambition was to become a world champion. "I work very hard at the gym and my trainers, Phathutshedzo Dongola and Azwitamisi Matumba, are doing a tremendous job to help me make my dream come true," said Mudau.
Dongola said there was no doubt that Mudau would become a world champion one day as he was talented and a hard worker.
