Khakhanwa United Stars collected points at the expense of Maelula New Mates, when they beat them 1-0 in their champ of champs promotional play-off match at the Makwarela Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The game was a balanced affair, with Mates who soon realized that it was not their day, when they squandered numerous scoring chances in the first 20 minutes. They had their first regret in the ninth minute. Their left flank, Azwihangwisi Nengovhela, hesitated for too long to unleash within the box, until he lost possession. Naledzani Ratombo committed a similar blunder moments later. He dribbled past three defenders in a row and shot wide with the keeper already beaten.

Sadam Mbulaheni of United Stars was reprimanded with a card for a late tackle on Mushe Matibe in the 27th minute. United Stars came close to scoring in the 38th minute. They strengthened their midfield by introducing Dakalo Ndou, Takalani Mathivha and Tshifhiwa Mugubi for Thanzi Muruge, Martin Mudau and Rendani Mathivha.

The captain of United Stars, Mmbangiseni Mulaudzi, was cautioned for rough tackling. He tackled Mulalo Munzhedzi from behind in the 67th minute.

The goal which earned United Stars three points came in the 78th minute. Mmbangiseni Mulaudzi tried his luck from outside the box. The ball hit the woodwork and bounced across the goal line.
