Black Leopards´ captain and a stalwart of the team for many years, Robert N´gambi, has apparently signed a two-year contract with a PSL team, Platinum Stars.
N´gambi, who has been a regular feature in the Leopards team, will surely be missed by the team and its supporters. He has played a vital part in Leopards´ successes this season and helped them to qualify for the promotional play-offs. The Malawian international player also showed his loyalty to the team by sticking with the squad when Leopards were relegated from the elite league a few seasons ago.
Platinum Stars´ general manager, Jason Raine, confirmed that they had offered N´gambi a contract for two years. According to him, it will be effective from the 1st of July.
Leopards’ manager, Mr Sam Khaphathe, said the club was unaware of N´gambi´s departure, but even so they would give him their full blessing. "He served Lidoda duvha well, and we cannot now complain if he has signed with another team”, he says. The agreement between the team and N´gambi was that he would leave the team, should they fail to get promotion to the Premier Soccer League. "Leopards will never stand in a player´s way," said Mr Khaphathe.
Khaphathe said that when they heard the news of N´gambi´s departure, they called him and asked him about it, but he denied rumours that he had signed any contracts.
One of the die-hard fans of Black Leopards, Mr Tshilidzi Sadiki, appealed to the management of Black Leopards to sit down and negotiate with the player. "If they (Leopards) fail to be promoted, they must release him. N´gambi was faithful to the team and helped the team for many years," he said.
