Rodney Ramagalela, Black Leopards’ leading goal scorer, has appealed to the team’s supporters not to press the panic buttons. He was responding to the rumour that he is likely to be out of action for a period of three months after sustaining an injury.
Ramagalela was roped in to the national U/23 team, “Amagluglug” last week, after the team’s head coach, Mr Ephraim “Shakes” Mashaba, went public, saying his team was lacking the services of a killer striker of Ramagalela’s calibre. Ramagalela was called to be part of the team that played against Zimbabwe in their All Africa Games qualifier at the Sinaba Stadium in Johannesburg last Saturday. Ramagalela came on as a substitute in the second half.
Realizing that Ramagalela was a thorn in the flesh of their defenders, it did not take long for the Zimbabweans to neutralize him through dangerous tackles. Ramagalela was taken off the pitch on a stretcher, following an ankle injury.
The league’s top goal scorer told Limpopo Mirror that although his injury was serious, it would not keep him out of action for more than a month. “I will be training with the team when we resume with our normal training sessions in two weeks´ time,” he said.
According to him, they were given three weeks to rest after playing their last promotional play-off match against Bay United at the Tshifulanani Stadium two weeks ago.
When asked about the media reports that he has been approached by several PSL teams for his services after scoring 18 goals for Leopards last season, Ramagalela said that he was happy with Black Leopards and that it was too early for him to consider moving to another team, especially now that Leopards have been promoted to the PSL.
