Nzhelele Young All Nations rose to the occasion and beat the much-respected team, Matsa Waya-Waya, 2-1 in their Luvhengo Mungomeni U/17 Development league match, played at the Rabali grounds on Saturday.
Nations showed a spirit of commitment from the onset and victory was their well-deserved reward. Although Nations showed cohesion in all departments throughout the match, the performance of their striker, Lufuno Mainganya, was outstanding. Mainganya was everywhere, giving support to both his midfielders and making sure that his danger area was always clean.
The team from Matsa displayed their rough skills and the referee calmed the situation by flashing two yellow cards in quick succession. The players who were reprimanded were Rabelani Ramannzi and Phathutshedzo Murulwana.
Lufuno Mainagnaye of Nations scored after he finished off a square pass from Zwakale Ralinala. Matsa were forced to affect an early change to the starting line-up. They replaced the injured Khodani Masakona with Thompho Mamathuntsha.
Lufuno Mainganya completed his brace in 40th minute. He received a neat pass from Thilivhali Mukwevho and beat the keeper, Divhani Sirunwa, with a ground cutter. The half-time score was 2-0 in favour of Nations.
In the second half, Matsa created more chances but failed to convert them into real goals. Their solitary goal came in the 67th minute. Thompho Mamathuntsha beat the off-side trap and ran straight to the opponents´ keeper, Pfano Lishivha, before sending him the wrong way.
After the goal, the boys from Matsa came back strongly in the 78th minute, with their midfielders dishing some telling passes to the frontrunners. Their coaching desk displayed wisdom when they introduced Tevin Malovhele for Shundu Matsa, who looked weary from the onset.
