Black Leopards´ number one goalkeeper, Azwinndi “Silver” Maphaha, ploughed back into the community when he donated a new soccer kit and 15 pairs of soccer boots to his former school, Matanda Primary, on Monday.
Maphaha was nominated Player of the Match during the Old Mutual Mangaung Cup game against Bloemfontein Celtic last month. For his achievement, he was awarded with a soccer kit and 14 pairs of soccer boots. Maphaha opted to present his prize to his primary school.
He said that the reason he decided to do this was to unearth new talent. “I just want to develop young players," he added. Maphaha said the idea came about after seeing that most youths were not participating in sport and were embracing alcohol and drug abuse and practising unprotected sex. "Most of them end up being drop-outs and not succeeding in life. However, sport will keep them focused," he said.
"Put your education first and you will succeed," he said. The sport organiser of the school, Mr Thilivhali Lalumbe, was over the moon. "This man is doing a wonderful job for our school. He laid a good foundation that will take the pupils to a better future," he added.
