Western Stars outclassed Tshikota Chelsea 1-0 in a Safa Vhembe SAB league match at Tshikota on Sunday, 25 September.
Stars showed a spirit of commitment from the onset and victory was a well-deserved reward. Although Stars showed cohesion in all departments throughout the match, their striker, Robby Munonoka´s performance was outstanding. Munonoka was everywhere, giving support to both his midfielders and making sure that his danger area was always clean.
The home team started to display rough skills, but the referee, Mr Mpfariseni Musekwa, calmed the situation by flashing two yellow cards in quick succession. The players who were reprimanded were Chester Murwanthi and Hilton Tshivhula of Chelsea.
Stars were forced to effect an early change to their starting line-up. They replaced the injured Oscar Mafunisa with Mushoni Leaka.
No goal was scored in the first half. In the second half, Chelsea created more chances but failed to convert them. Their only goal came in the 77th minute. Robby Munonoka beat the offside trap and ran straight to the opponents´ keeper, Faith Ratombo, before sending him the wrong way.
After the goal, the boys from Madombidzha came back strongly, with their midfielders dishing telling passes to the frontrunners. Hilton Tshivhula of Chelsea was red-carded for a second bookable offence.
Chelsea should have equalised in the 82nd minute, but their demon-striker, Thabelo Tshikweta, shot wide with only keeper Hector Malange to beat.
