Black Leopards failed to collect maximum points against Maritzburg United, with whom they played to goalless draw in their Absa Premiership League match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday, 24 September.
The Leopards’ keeper, Postnet Omony, was a star to watch throughout the tough game. He made his presence felt in the ninth minute when he miraculously sprang like a well-oiled machine to punch Byron Hendrieks’ volley away for a corner kick.
Leopards took the game to the visitors as the game progressed. Their Zimbabwean international, Kingston Nkhatha, shot wide after a scramble within the box, much to the disappointment of the team’s fans.
The Leopards’ technical staff was forced to effect a change to their starting lineup against their will in the 26th minute. Kingston Nkhatha sustained a knee injury and was replaced with the Malawian international, Grant Lungu. The visitors from the Kwazulu Natal replaced Wayne Matle with Michael Morton towards the end of the first half.
Lidoda Duvha were by far the better side throughout the last half, but Lady Luck was not on their side. Their killer-striker, Rodney Ramagalela, realized that it was not his day when he went loose and shot wide from the edge of the penalty box in the 67th minute. Leopards later replaced Tiyani Mabunda with Edgar Manaka in a bid to strengthen their midfield. Manaka combined well with Dave Banda and Mongezi Bobe in the middle of the park.
The referee, Robert Sithole, reprimanded Rheece Evans of United with a card, following a late tackle on Kwena in the dying minutes.
