In their SAB League match at Gwamasenga on Saturday (1 October), Gwamasenga United Brothers were too good for Madala Liverpool, whom they brutally crushed 5-1.

Liverpool managed to match the home side pound for pound in the first half, but their stamina vanished as the game progressed.

It took United Brothers nine minutes to open their account. Their fast forward, Mashudu Malusha, made no mistake, following a beautiful pass from Oscar Mulangaphuma. The visitors from Dzwerani village did not waste much time before retaliating. Their solitary goal came in the 18th minute. Fhulufhelani Mudau found the net after a scramble within the box.

Liverpool came close to scoring again when Khuthadzo Mushadu’s volley missed the target by inches. The home side was leading 2-1 at the end of the first half. They took the lead in the 37th minute. Avhapfani “Makita” Munyai unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box. The keeper of Liverpool, Alert Madiba, misjudged the flight of the ball before watching it go beyond his reach.

Liverpool looked hopeless in the last half. Oscar Mulangaphuma scored the third for United Brothers with a ground cutter. Rudzani Mudzunga of Liverpool was booked for a late tackle on Rofhiwa Ganyane. Avhapfani Munyai was on target again in the 59th minute.

Realising that all fingers were pointing at him for the Brothers’ four goals, the keeper of Liverpool, Alert Madiba, requested to be replaced. Phanuel Mulaudzi took over as his substitute. That did not stop United Brothers from scoring their fifth goal. Lesley Khomola hit the target in the 78th minute to make it 5-1.
