In their Vodacom Promotional League match at the Malamulele Stadium on Sunday (09/10), the newly promoted Rospa United, or Davhana Shooting Stars as they were formerly known, gave away league points to The Dolphins FC.
The score was 2-0 when the Kgapane-based referee, Quality Kgapane, blew the final whistle.
The hosts had nobody but themselves to blame for the defeat. Their strikers, Mashudu Mashapha and Happy Mahuntsi, squandered obvious scoring chances, much to the disappointment of the fans. The first player to cause an upset was Mashudu “Tlolo” Mashapha. He received a good pass from Meshack Mphangule next to the goal line and shot straight to the stranded keeper.
The visitors from Taaibos regrouped and started to play like a united team. Their efforts did not pass without a reward as they opened their account in the 28th minute. Khulani Maringa unleashed a volley from inside the penalty box and the ball hit the crossbar and bounced across the goal line to give the Dophins a well-deserved 1-0 lead.
In the second half, United introduced Shandukani Mukoma and Lindelani Baloyi for Happy Mahuntsi and Sbusiso Shabangu respectively. The Dophins replaced Matome Sebola with Noko Hlako in the 60th minute.
A defender of United, Gumani Mushungwa, tackled Ishmael Mukwebo the rough way inside the box and the referee awarded a penalty to Dolphins. Mmakwena Boshomane made no mistake. The keeper of United, Tshifhango Mulaudzi, was reprimanded with a card for handling a pass from a teammate intentionally.
