Western Stars beat Matika FC 1-0 in their Safa SAB League match at the Tshikota grounds on Sunday, 9 October.

Matika were chasing the action from the first whistle to the bitter end. The visitors from Madombidzha made their defenders work overtime by making silly mistakes in the centre of the pitch. In the 10th minute, Mpepe Mhlanga of Matika was booked after he tackled Percy Munonoka from behind.

Stars threatened to score in the 14th minute. Oscar Mafunisa, who was later replaced with Thabo Matumba, won a loose ball from what looked like an off-side position and panicked before unleashing a volley that went wide.

No goals were scored in the first half. The diminutive referee, Mpfariseni Musekwa, flashed a yellow card in the 67th minute to Percy Munonoka of Stars for ignoring the referee´s whistle.

Stars made two replacements in the second half. They introduced Gundo Sivhungwana and Petrus Rasilingwana for Percy Ndou and Thabo Matumba respectively.

The much-awaited goal for Stars came in the 80th minute. Robby Munonoka scored after he finished off a square pass from his brother, Percy.
