Hard-fought victory for Amakhosi

Kaizer Chiefs fought hard to earn three important league points when they beat Black Leopards 2-0 in their Absa Premiership League match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Sunday (16/10).

Chiefs won the match in the midfield, from where Siphiwe Tshabalala and Tinashe Nengomasha were dishing out dangerous passes to the strikers. Leopards should have been the first to blow the trumpet, but their bulldozer striker, Rodney Ramagalela, let the fans down in the 18th minute. He won the ball from Jimmy Jambo outside the box and unleashed a ground cutter, which went a little wide.

The Leopards’ keeper, Postnet Omony, was a marvel to watch throughout the game. He impressed everybody when he stretched to the limit to palm Bernard Parker’s volley away for a corner kick. As if that was not good enough to convince the crowd, Omony executed another brilliant save to stop George Lebese from scoring an obvious goal.

Leopards were more organized in the midfield in the last half, especially after the introduction of Tiyani Mabunda for Raymond Monama. Several of Leopards’ players, Harry Nyirenda, Vincent Xakane, Moses Kwena and Thomas Madimba, were reprimanded with cards for different infringements earlier in the last half.

Chiefs broke the deadlock in the 67th minute when their overlapping defender, Lucky Baloyi, unleashed from the edge of the box. Leopards later replaced Grant Lungu with Thabo Mongalo while Chiefs sacrificed Bernard Parker and Stembiso Ncgobo for Lehlohonolo Majoro and Reneilwe Letsholonyane respectively.

The home side lost hope when Ramagalela miskicked the ball with the keeper to beat in the 78th minute. Amakhosi increased the margin nine minutes before the final whistle. Lehlohonolo Majoro hooked in the ball after a scramble within the box and sealed the game.
