Makhado Municipality recognised for yet another unqualified audit

The Makhado Local Municipality was recognised for achieving a fourth consecutive unqualified audit, while also spending 100% of its municipal infrastructure grant. The awards were presented to the municipality by the South African Local Government Association during a function held at the Fusion Boutique Hotel in Polokwane on 20 March.

Upon receiving the award, the Makhado Municipality was commended for maintaining acceptable standards in planning and spending, which ultimately leads to efficient service delivery. For the past four years, the municipality has received unqualified financial reports from the auditor general, just one step below a clean audit report.

Shortly after receiving the award, jubilant Mayor Dorcus Mboyi said: “We are gearing to new heights, whatever circumstances we come across. However, winning and being counted among the best also brings a very serious challenge - that of maintaining that top position. I am proud to guarantee that we will continue to scoop awards because we have effectively provided for our communities.”

Mboyi emphasised that by setting clear goals and establishing priorities outlined in the integrated development plan, the municipality had gained focus and direction. This approach ensures meaningful participation of communities and stakeholders in developmental programmes, aligning with the mandates of the Local Government Municipal Systems Act.
