Shadani Dangerous Scorpions came back from a 0-1 half-time deficit to beat Begwa United Brothers 6-5 in their MTG Soccer Challenge KO match at the Malamulele Stadium on Saturday.
As if they were going to bury their opponents alive, Brothers approached the game with their tails high, creating some dangerous moves from the middle of the park.
Brothers’ Rastafarian striker, Beron Musimeng, was a thorn in the flesh of the defence of Scorpions. Musimeng was everywhere, collecting balls from behind and, at the same time, assisting the midfielders. He lived up to the fans’ expectations when he scored in the 19th minute. The keeper of Scorpions, Combrick Chauke, mishandled the ball next to the goal line.
Musimeng, who was in the perfect scoring position, blasted in a rocket to give his side a 1-0 lead. Ronewa Tshibalanganda of Scorpions was the first player to go into the referee’s book. He tackled Harry Munyai from behind. United Brothers maintained their 1-0 lead until the end of the first half, despite creating numerous scoring chances.
Mulanga Nemudzivhadi of United Brothers found himself on the wrong side of the law three minutes into the second half. He obstructed the Scorpions’ keeper, Combrick Chauke. Scorpions found the equaliser in the 78th minute. Given Sikhipha was on target with a header, following a brilliant pass from Ipfani Siphuma.
The winner was determined through penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 full-time stalemate. Scorpions converted five of their chances via Owen Nematei, Nditwani Ramaano, Given Sikhipha, Combrick Chauke and Ntuwisen Tshivalo, while United Brothers converted four through Mulanga Nemudzivhadi, Beron Musimeng, Harry Munyai and Nale Nemutanzhela.
