Vehicle accident claims four lives

A tragic vehicle accident claimed the lives of four people and left another two injured.

The accident happened near Levubu on Friday afternoon. According to police information, six people, including the driver, were travelling towards Punda Maria when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree next to the road.

The male driver, a mother and her daughter and another female passenger were killed on impact. The other two male passengers were badly injured and rushed to the Louis Trichardt Memorial Hospital for treatment.

According to provincial police spokesperson Lt Col Mohale Ramatseba, the driver was a traffic officer from Musina.

“The cause of the accident has not been established,” he said in a press release. At the time of going to press, the names of the other deceased, as well as those of the injured, had yet to be released.

Police have opened a case of culpable homicide for further investigation.
